Wilhelm Weber (* 24. October 1804 Wittenberg † 23. June 1891 Göttingen) was a German physician and one of Gauß’ closest friends. In 1831 Gauß recommended him to be the new Professor of physic in Göttingen and they worked together on the research on electromagnetic telegraphy. He was forced to leave Göttingen in the aftermath of the 1837 protest of the Göttingen Seven. After this intermission and an employment as a professor in Leipzig he returned to Göttingen in 1849. After Gauß’ death he inherited the position of director of the observatory.
