The German geodesist and major Georg Wilhelm Müller (* 30. October 1785 in Lüneburg † 03. Mai 1843 in Hannover) studied mathematics, astronomy, geodesy, and physics in Göttingen with Gauß as his teacher. From 1824 onwards he also helped him with local measurements for the hannoverian land survey. After finishing the survey, he continued with his own measurements and taught geodesy at the artillery school on which he corresponded with Gauß.
