The Austrian-German astronomer and geodesist Franz Xaver Freiherr von Zach (* 13. June 1754 Pest [Budapest] † 02. September 1832 Paris) held correspondence with a lot of different researchers in astronomy, mathematics and geodesy. Moreover, he founded various journals and in 1798 held the first astronomer congress. His greatest interest was to exchange research and spread astronomical research for the public.
